Massapequa
Massapequa is the South Shore Nassau village famous for being everyone's hometown — Jerry Seinfeld, Joey Buttafuoco, Brian Setzer, and roughly half of New York City's firefighters all came up here. The Tackapausha Preserve + Massapequa Reserve are the nature draw; the South Shore beach access (Tobay, Jones) is 10 min south.
Known for
- South Shore family town
- Massapequa Preserve trails
- Tobay + Jones Beach access
- Jerry Seinfeld's hometown
- lots of fire-department history
Massapequa is the South Shore Nassau village that locals call “the Town That Worked” — generations of NYC civil servants (firefighters especially) settled here in the 50s and 60s, and the family-town character has held. The Tackapausha Preserve runs north-south through the village, the Massapequa Reserve has trail networks, and Tobay Beach is 10 minutes south.
Best moves:
- Massapequa Preserve — 4-mile linear park, trail running, dog-friendly, free
- Tackapausha Museum + Preserve — small natural history museum + trails (free, family Saturdays)
- South Shore restaurant strip on Sunrise Highway — Lola’s, Houlihan’s, Christianos
- Tobay Beach — 10 min south, town-of-Oyster-Bay residents only on weekends
Best paired with: a beach morning at Tobay + lunch at one of the Sunrise Highway South Shore staples.
