The Long Beach West End strip — three blocks of bars, restaurants, and outdoor seating — comes alive every Friday + Saturday summer night. Minus5 Ice Lounge, Sloppy Tuna, Joe's, and the boardwalk-adjacent rooftops are the regulars. LIRR direct from Penn means car-free city escape.
The Long Beach West End is Long Island’s clearest car-free nightlife scene. Three blocks of bars + restaurants + boardwalk rooftops. Minus5 Ice Lounge (the gimmicky-but-fun ice bar), Sloppy Tuna (the beach-bar that doesn’t apologize), Joe’s of West End (locals’ standby), the rooftop bars on the boardwalk side.
The summer Friday rhythm:
- LIRR from Penn — 8:00 train arrives 8:55, perfect for dinner
- Dinner: Speakeasy, The Riptide, or oysters at Catch Oyster Bar
- Bars: walk the strip — most are within 2 blocks
- Boardwalk walk after midnight — Atlantic Ocean at 1 AM is a vibe
- Last LIRR back to Penn: 12:38 AM weeknights, 1:38 AM Saturdays
Practical:
- ID required at all venues (most are 21+; some have 18+ areas)
- ATM-heavy strip — bring cash for some smaller bars
- Beach access after dark is technically restricted but rarely enforced

Mulcahy's Latin Night
Long Island's only weekly Latin music + dance night. Free lessons 9-10 PM (salsa, bachata, kizomba on rotating weeks), then the DJ takes over until 1 AM. Cover is cash only ($15 at the door). Dress code: smart casual — most folks step it up. Parking is free in the side lot but Railroad Ave fills by 9:30.

Surf Lodge Tuesday — DJ Sunset Set in Montauk
Montauk's Surf Lodge is the East End summer nightlife reference standard — outdoor deck overlooking Fort Pond, DJ sets at sunset Tuesday through Sunday, a scene that has launched a thousand magazine think-pieces. The Tuesday slot is the locals' move (Wednesday and Friday are the chaos).
